Sewer scope report glossary
- Lateral / side sewer
- The pipe from the building to the public main (who's responsible).
- Cleanout
- A capped access point used to insert cameras and cleaning tools (find yours).
- Offset joint
- Two pipe sections no longer aligned. Minor offsets catch debris, and large ones can stop the camera.
- Belly / sag
- A low section that holds water (more).
- Root intrusion
- Roots entering through joints or cracks (more).
- Scale / tuberculation
- Corrosion buildup inside metal pipe (cast iron).
- Fracture / crack
- A break in the pipe wall, described as circumferential (around) or longitudinal (along).
- Collapse / broken pipe
- Missing or caved-in section, usually requiring excavation.
- Footage / distance marker
- Distance from the entry point to a defect. Used to locate it from the surface.
- Transition
- Where one pipe material joins another, a common weak point.
- Tap / connection to main
- Where the lateral joins the public sewer.
